Objective: Build a foundation for understanding climate change impacts on marine mammals.
8:00am Arrive at NC Museum of Natural Sciences, load bus, depart
noon Lunch at Jeanette’s pier
1:00–2:00pm Tour the pier
2:00–3:30 Tour North Carolina Aquarium Roanoke Island
3:30–5:30 Drive to Virginia Beach
5:30–7:30 Dinner and lecture from Virginia Aquarium and Science Center staff
7:30–8:30pm Group work, journaling

Thursday, August 11

Objective: Create an emotional connection, and enhance understanding, of pinnipeds and wild dolphins.
7:30am Breakfast
8:00–10:30 Pinniped encounter
10:30am–noon Tour Virginia Aquarium and Science Center
noon–1:00pm Lunch
1:00–3:30 Wild Dolphin research cruise
3:30–5:30 Dolphin Necropsy (Sue Barco, VA Aquarium)
5:30–6:30 Hotel time to shower and change
6:30–8:00 Dinner in VA Beach
8:00–9:30 Group work, journaling

Friday, August 12

Objective: Develop an  understanding of marine ecosystems and informal programming.
7:30am Breakfast at hotel, load bus
8:00am–1:00pm Travel to Baltimore, lunch on road
1:00–4:00 Tour National Aquarium at Baltimore
4:00–5:30 Seminar with Aquarium staff
5:30–6:30 Hotel break
6:30–8:00 Dinner in Little Italy
8:00–9:00 Group work, journaling

Saturday, August 13

Objective: Gain a better understanding of programming with marine mammals.
8:00–9:00am Breakfast at hotel, load bus
9:00am–noon Dolphin encounters
noon–1:00pm Lunch and activities
1:00–6:00 Travel to Mystic
6:00–8:00 Dinner

Sunday, August 14

Objective: Gain a better understanding of Arctic marine mammals

9:00–10:30 Tour Mystic Seaport
10:45am–1:00pm First set of Beluga encounters, lunch, visit aquarium
1:00–2:15 Climate change activities
1:00–3:00 Second set Beluga Encounters

Monday, August 15

10:00–11:00 Tour Koshland Museum
11:00am–noon Group work on climate change
12:15–1:15 pm Lunch Old Post Office
1:30–2:30 Tour Sant  Ocean Hall
2:30–4:30 Group De-brief Smithsonian
4:30–6:00  free time to explore Smithsonian

Friday, August 19

Objective: Consolidate ideas and outline plan for climate and ocean literacy programs.
7:00–8:00am Breakfast, load bus one last time
8:00–1:30 pm Travel to NCMNS
1:30 Unpack and depart, and start planning our events!
